Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026
The short version
Matrix Desktop does not track you. It checks for updates and only sends feedback data when you explicitly press Send.
Data collection
Matrix Desktop does not passively collect, transmit, or store personal data. The app:
- Contains no analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting
- Only accesses a file when you explicitly attach it to feedback
- Does not use cookies or tracking technologies
- Does not require an account or sign-in
Auto-updates
Matrix Desktop uses Sparkle (open-source, MIT licensed) to check for app updates. Sparkle fetches the appcast feed at https://matrix.watch/appcast.xml to determine if a newer version is available. This request contains no app-generated personal data, although the server receives standard network information such as an IP address and user agent.
Feedback
Nothing is sent until you press Send. A feedback submission includes the message you enter, any file you choose to attach, the app version and build, your macOS version, and a random submission identifier used to prevent duplicate delivery. Submissions are processed by Netlify and Resend and delivered by email to chris@matrix.watch. Do not include information you do not want to share.
Local storage
The app stores your settings (selected preset, slider values, shuffle preference) in macOS UserDefaults on your device. This data never leaves your Mac and is deleted when you uninstall the app.
Third-party services
Sparkle provides app updates. Netlify and Resend process feedback only when you submit it. The app is otherwise built with Apple's native frameworks (AppKit, Metal, SwiftUI) and includes no analytics SDKs, crash reporters, or tracking services.
Website
This website is a static HTML page. It contains no analytics, cookies, or tracking scripts. The only external requests are to Google Fonts for typography.
Children's privacy
Matrix Desktop does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The optional feedback feature is not intended to collect age or identity information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
